Till a couple of weeks back the country was sweltering under a heat wave. Kerala always struggles with the heat from March to May till the rains promptly arrives on June 1st (the Met dept. may predict June 1st, but if June 1st happens to be Sunday, then of course the schedule postpones to Monday, in time for school opening!)
But this year, the whole country was wilting under the rather prolonged heat wave. Even Bangalore, which normally is slightly better, saw the mercury hitting 35 degrees. For a nouveau Bangalorean, (well, a year's just up for me, so I've just experienced all possible seasons on offer*) I found the heat rather surprising, given the reputation of the city.
Then suddenly under the guise of pre monsoon showers, now there is a continual drenching from Delhi to Kanyakumari. Delhi has never seen rains in May! Although I'm sure no one there is complaining.
What is happening to the weather? There has been a dramatic change in the weather patterns across the world. Remember the hurricanes hitting US a few years back? Recently, it came to light that there has been discovery of a crack in the Arctic ice cap.
Global warming, pollution on side and marches for 'green environment' on the other. It does not balance, because that's all it is, Marches. How much is actually practiced? We have been surrounded by slogans preaching about conserving energy, reducing carbon emissions and so on. But how many of us actually switch of the light when we leave a room or walk to the grocery store over using the car? Every bit counts in the larger picture but unfortunately a common refrain is "What difference will just my gesture make?!" Every bit makes a difference.
*More on that later, the weather and the city

A new beginning
This is an attempt to restart blogging. Its been quite a while since I did this, a year I think. I hope to be more regular than I was. But I do promise (myself!) that I'll pen (most of) the random thoughts that seem to flit through my head.
